“Supporting Member Development: Applying for HEA Fellowship”
23 rd January 2020
Northumbria University, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
One of the aims of the Foundation Year Network is to represent, promote and support continuing professional development opportunities for foundation year practitioners and, as such, this workshop aims to facilitate discussion and activities surrounding Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), including:
- the benefits of HEA Fellowship
- how we, as FY practitioners, can apply for FHEA and SFHEA
- case studies
As the HEA only recognised foundation year experience as relevant university teaching experience in 2018, Network members may not have been able to apply earlier in their careers. We hope that the session will appeal to Network members who are considering applying for Fellowship or Senior Fellowship, especially those on ‘teaching focussed’ career paths who have limited access to support within their institutions. There is scope to use it to launch a peer mentoring scheme.
In addition, lunch (from 13:00) will also include an opportunity to discuss how best the Network can communicate with members and how the membership can communicate with each other. We are particularly interested in how workshops can be made accessible to those unable to attend in person. If you have any useful suggestions or examples from you own institution, e.g. Blackboard Collaborate, please bring them to lunch.
Further details will follow in due course concerning the precise location, timing, etc. Travel information: https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/study-at-northumbria/visit-northumbria/directions-to-northumbria/
Please let us know by 16 th January 2020 (by emailing email@example.com) if you would like to attend.
FYN workshops provide opportunities for members to engage in discussion relating to good practice in foundation year provision and academic scholarship, to support CPD for foundation year practitioners, and to explore the diversity of provision for entry into HE.
The FYN is committed to supporting inclusive attendance for its members at Network events including workshops. To support FYN members who would not otherwise be able to attend such events, the Network maintains a bursary fund.
