Annual Conference 2018

Date: July 5th & 6th 2018

Venue: University of Nottingham

Theme: “Unity and Diversity in the Foundation Year Experience”

The aim of this year’s conference is, simply, to encourage the sharing of best practice and innovation in Foundation Year provision. In an increasingly competitive and metrics-driven Higher Education environment, this conference is intended to develop a collaborative context for Foundation Year providers.

We hope that the conference will facilitate the identification and exploration of:

  1. common experiences among Foundation Year students and staff, and the benefits of sharing evidence-based approaches among Foundation Year providers;
  2. the diverse challenges for Foundation Year teaching and learning presented by the different contexts in which we work.

Outline conference schedule (registration has now closed).

Call for papers:

Abstracts (maximum 400 words) are invited for conference papers that focus on the Foundation Year experience from a staff or student perspective – or both.

Suggestions for possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  1. Transition into Foundation Year study
  2. Foundation Year student development
  3. Foundation Year staff development
  4. Progression from Foundation Year study

Where appropriate, we encourage contributors to consider featuring the student voice in some way (through video, survey data, etc.), but this is not a pre-requisite for an abstract being accepted

Please indicate in which of the following formats you are willing to present (you may select either or both; successful abstracts will receive confirmation of the required format):

  • 5 minute presentation (+ shared time for questions)
  • 20 minute presentation (+ 10 minutes for questions)

A number of bursaries will be made available to facilitate conference attendance – please email if you are interested in finding out more about these and we will provide further information when it is available.
